Seek to see

“And he was seeking to see who Jesus was" - Luke 19:3
Have you ever stopped to ponder what it means to seek to see? Luke brings us into the story of Zaccheus and goes onto say he couldn’t see Jesus, because of the crowd and he was small in stature. So, what did he do? “he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way.”
When we seek to see we are pursuing with a heart, mind, eyes and ears that are open to seeing Him. It may not look like running and jumping in a tree, but there is pursuit.
If I do a heart-check, I’m not always in pursuit of my Father. What about you?

We often go to remote areas to pursue being present with our children. That time of seeking to see who they are is really precious and I pray life-giving for generations to come.
There is also a purposeful seeking to see Jesus in those days in the wild(erness) together - the moments of remembering His goodness around the campfire, space to BE without commitments calling our names loudly and to hear Him in the stillness.

When we enter back home the idols of my heart and busyness of my day crowds out my seeking and seeing.
The beautiful truth is that we don’t have to go away to remote lands or climb trees to see Him. His spirit DWELLS in US.
What a gift!
May our hearts be open to seeking and seeing Him in the simple moments of our day as He dwells in us. In the moments that no one notices, but Him.
Invite Him in while rocking babies, washing dishes, as you giggle with your child, as you wipe a tear from your own face or the face of a loved one, during difficult conversations, when your day goes different than planned, as you rely on Him for patience in relationships, when your child receives a life changing diagnosis, while cleaning the floor, when you remind your sweet child something for the tenth time, while washing soiled clothes, when depression washes over, when carrying burdens, as you hold or are held by your husband, as you long for a husband or a baby to hold, as you pray the same prayer that you have for years, as you fall in to bed trust that you are rooted and grounded in a love that never leaves and always loves - a love worth seeking and seeing today, tomorrow and forever.

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (Matthew 6:26)
Lord, thank you for being a Father who values us. May we be in relentless pursuit of you. Change our hearts to be present with you and rejoice in all circumstances. May we be selflessly present with those you put in our path. Help us to seek to see you and value a life lived for you. May we bring Glory to you as we trust in you even when it is hard to trust.
